Vanuatu signs a VT878 million contract to modernise the government's financial management system

The Government of Vanuatu has signed a five-year contract worth VT878 million, about AUD 10.47 million, with Infor to replace its financial management system, with support from Australia, IT Brief Australia reports.

The Government of Vanuatu has signed a five-year contract worth VT878 million, about AUD 10.47 million, with software company Infor to replace the government's financial management system, IT Brief Australia reported on 3 November. The project is funded by the Vanuatu Government with support from the Australian Government.

According to the report, the new platform, Infor CloudSuite Public Sector, will bring financial management, budgeting, procurement, asset management, human resources and payroll together in one system across government. It replaces SmartStream, which had been in use for more than 20 years and which, according to the authorities, no longer fully meets current public financial management requirements.

The report says a customer portal will let people use services, submit applications and make payments online, and a supplier portal will let vendors receive purchase orders, send invoices and track payments. Government staff will handle leave requests, payslips and recruitment steps online.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economic Management Johnny Koanapo said the changes could reduce the need for people outside urban centres to travel to government offices. Implementation has started and will be phased over the next year, according to the article.

What it means

For businesses that supply the Vanuatu government, purchase orders, invoices and payment tracking are due to move to an online supplier portal as the system is rolled out over the coming year. The article does not give dates for when each portal will open.
