Travelling on a Vanuatu passport: visa-free countries and recent changes

The Vanuatu passport gives visa-free access to 42 countries and territories and a visa on arrival in 30. An e-visa is enough for 44 countries, and 77 countries, including the Schengen area, the United Kingdom and the United States, require a visa. This article gives the overall picture, the key countries and travel tips, with the date of the data.

This article gives a picture of the visa position of Vanuatu passport holders. The data come from the list "Visa requirements for Vanuatu citizens" on English Wikipedia, checked on 18 October 2026. The Schengen and UK positions were also checked against official sources of the European Union and the UK Government. Each country sets its own visa rules and they may change. Before every trip, ask the destination's official source about its rules.

The overall picture

According to that list, a Vanuatu passport holder:

  • travels to 42 countries and territories without a visa;
  • gets a visa on arrival in 30 countries;
  • obtains an e-visa or online travel authorisation for 44 countries;
  • needs a visa before travelling to 77 countries.

Key countries

  • The Schengen area: a visa is needed. This requirement follows Regulation (EU) 2025/11, which we explain in a separate article.
  • The United Kingdom and Ireland: a visa is needed; for the United Kingdom since 19 July 2023.
  • The United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan: a visa is needed.
  • Russia: visa-free for up to 90 days.
  • Singapore and Malaysia: visa-free for up to 30 days.
  • Thailand: visa on arrival for up to 30 days.
  • The United Arab Emirates and Qatar: e-visa for up to 30 days.
  • India: e-visa for up to 60 days.
  • China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Brazil: a visa is needed.

Practical points

  • "Visa-free" does not mean guaranteed entry. A border officer may ask for a return ticket, an accommodation booking or enough money.
  • A passport usually needs to be valid for at least six months after the travel date.
  • Enter and leave on the same passport you used for the visa or authorisation.
  • Some countries have special rules for holders of valid residence or visas of other countries. Ask the embassy.

The full list

The table of all countries, searchable, is in the "Vanuatu passport" section of the Vanuatu guide on the Royal Golden site. The date of the data is shown beside the table.

This article is general information. Decisions on entry rest with the border authorities of the destination.
