How long does a Dominica citizenship application take?

The CBIU states the usual time from submission to approval in principle as three to four months. After that come paying the investment, the issue of the Certificate of Naturalisation and the passport. This article explains the time-consuming parts of an application and how to avoid delays.

"When do I get the passport?" is every applicant's question. The exact answer depends on the application and on the authorities. This article separates what the official authority has said from what is in the applicant's own hands. The sources were checked on 24 October 2026.

What the CBIU has said

  • On the "How to apply" page: usually three to four months from submission to approval in principle.
  • On the FAQ page: applicants should generally expect at least three months from submission to approval in principle.
  • Neither figure is a guarantee.

Before submission: the part in your hands

The time to prepare the application is not part of these three or four months and often takes longer. The time-consuming parts:

  • police clearance certificates from all the countries required: the country of birth, of citizenship, of residence, and any country where you lived for more than six months in the past ten years;
  • translation, notarisation and legalisation of documents;
  • source of funds documents: twelve months of statements, a bank letter and a sworn statement of source of funds;
  • the medical examination and tests, which must not be dated more than three months before submission. So have them done close to the submission date.

After approval in principle

  • paying the investment as the CBIU's letter instructs;
  • the issue of the Certificate of Naturalisation on proof of payment;
  • applying for the passport with the certificate.

The CBIU has not published set times for these steps.

What causes delays

  • an incomplete or illegible document;
  • names written differently across documents;
  • a history not explained in the application that comes up in the due diligence;
  • interview answers that do not match the documents;
  • enhanced due diligence for some nationalities.

Royal Golden's contract

Our Dominica contract has no fixed term, because the review time is set by the Government of Dominica and its authorities. In the customer portal you see the application's stage and the documents still needed.
