After obtaining Dominica citizenship, the passport is the document you use most. This guide summarises the official rules from the CBIU's FAQ page. The source was checked on 24 October 2026.
Validity
- An adult's passport is usually valid for up to ten years.
- A child's passport under 16 is valid for five years.
- The first passport is applied for after the Certificate of Naturalisation is issued.
Renewal
- An expired passport, or one with no blank pages left, is renewed on payment of a fee.
- Renewal is possible at Dominica's Passport and Immigration Office or at any Dominica consulate.
- No travel to Dominica is needed for renewal.
- No address in Dominica is needed; you can give your main place of residence.
- The CBIU says that, as a citizen, you are entitled to a passport under Dominica's law.
If you have sold the investment property
If you obtained citizenship through real estate and sold the property after the required holding period, according to the CBIU this does not prevent renewing the passport. The holding period is at least three years.
Practical points
- Start renewal a few months before the passport expires. Many countries and airlines do not accept a passport with less than six months' validity.
- If you have a valid visa in the old passport, ask the issuing authority whether it is accepted with the new passport.
- If your name changed after marriage, have the document ready. Remember that the applicant undertook not to change their name for five years after citizenship except through marriage.
- On its "Services" page, Royal Golden offers Dominica passport renewal at a stated price and time.
If the passport is lost
Report the loss or theft to the local police and to the issuing authority as soon as possible and apply for a replacement passport. The police report is usually one of the replacement documents.
