Families change. A child may be born, or you may adopt a child, after obtaining Dominica citizenship. The Citizenship by Investment Unit of Dominica (CBIU) has a clear rule for this. The source was checked on 24 October 2026.
The official rule
According to the CBIU's FAQ page:
- a main applicant who has obtained citizenship may add their minor child to the application;
- the child may be biological or legally adopted;
- there is no time limit relative to the date citizenship was granted.
The CBIU does not give the fees for this on that page. Ask the Authorised Agent about the fees and the exact process before acting.
Documents usually needed
The exact list is set by the CBIU and the Authorised Agent. Based on the programme's general document list, keep these ready:
- the child's birth certificate, or the legal adoption order;
- the parent's Certificate of Naturalisation;
- the child's passport or identity document, if any;
- passport photographs;
- English translations of documents not in English, notarised and legalised.
After approval
After approval, a Certificate of Naturalisation is issued for the child, and with it a Dominica passport can be applied for. A passport for a child under 16 is valid for five years.
Points
- Write the child's name the same way in all documents.
- If the child was born in a country whose documents are in another language, allow time for translation and legalisation.
- Check separately the law on dual citizenship of the child's country of birth or other nationality.
